By Dynaflow, Inc. A Windows-based program for visualizing flows induced by distributions of vortices, dipoles, and sources. 2DFLOW/2DFLOWPLUS graphically illustrates the use of potential flow theory and has the capability to simulate a range of flow problems.

2DYNAEIT
By Dynaflow, Inc. 2DYNAEIT© is a suite of algorithms for solution of the two-dimensional forward and inverse Electrical Impedance Tomography (EIT) problems. The forward problem is the problem of determination of voltage and current distribution for known conductivity distribution in the imaged domain, while the inverse problem is the problem of image reconstruction using the measured voltages and/or currents. The two and three-dimensional EIT algorithms can be applied for multiphase flows imaging encountered in chemical, oil and gas, energy, and aerospace industries, imaging of underground water paths and container leakage, archaeology, detection of buried objects, chemical reactive flows, and many others.

ANSWER

Aqua3D

Argus ONE
By Argus Holdings, Ltd. The Argus Open Numerical Environments (Argus ONE) is a family of general purpose graphical Pre- and Post-Processors for the numerical modeler. They represent an approach of combining GIS and numerical modeling for groundwater and surface-flow modelers.

BIO1D
By CertainTech Corporation. BIO1D simulates the transport of organics in saturated porous media. The primary objective was to provide an interactive user-friendly microcomputer software package to serve as an educational tool in understanding the relative importance of various physicochemical and biochemical processes. Originally developed by GeoTrans, Inc., BIO1d is now owned and updated by CertainTech.

BP RISC
By Groundwater Software Online, LLC. RISC (Risk-Integrated Software for Clean-ups) performs fate and transport modeling and human health risk assessments for contaminated sites. In addition to traditional risk calculations, RISC calculates a cleanup level for an input value of risk. Fate and transport models are available to estimate receptor point concentrations in groundwater and indoor and outdoor air. RISC can be used to estimate the potential for adverse human health impacts (both carcinogenic and non-carcinogenic) from up to nine exposure pathways. Developed by BP Oil and Lynn R. Spence.

CANVAS (IGWMC)

CANVAS is a composite analytical-numerical code for simulation of transport and fate of viruses in ground-water. The code provides transient transport taking into account advection and dispersion of viral particles in the unsaturated and saturated zones, adsorption, inactivation (die-off), attachment and detachment kinetics and colloidal filtration. CANVAS may also be used for delineation of ground-water pathlines and well capture zones.

CAPZONE (IGWMC)

CAPZONE is an analytical flow model that can be used to construct ground-water flow models of two-dimensional flow systems characterized by isotropic and homogeneous confined, leaky-confined, or unconfined flow conditions. CAPZONE computes drawdowns at the intersections of a regularly-spaced rectangular grid produced by up to 100 wells using either the Theis equation or the Hantush-Jacob equation.

EPA-VHS (IGWMC)

EPA-VHS is a screening level model to predict maximum concentration of a pollutant at a prescribed distance downstream from a continuous source (at the compliance point). The model is based on an analytical solution for the transport of a conservative constituent in a homogeneous, isotropic aquifer with one-dimensional, horizontal, steady-state flow and dispersion perpendicular to the flow path.

FEFLOW
By DHI-WASY GmbH. FEFLOW is a finite element subsurface flow and transport simulation system.

FTWORK (IGWMC)
By Integrated GroundWater Modeling Center (IGWMC) (formerly International Ground Water Modeling Center). The program 'FTWORK' is a block-centered finite difference model for simulating one-, two- and three-dimensional steady-state and transient flow and transient single species solute transport in saturated media under confined and unconfined conditions. The model supports both areal and cross-sectional twodimensional simulations. The flow equation is posed in terms of hydraulic head, the transport equation in terms of concentration.

GFLOW
By Haitjema Software. GFLOW is a stepwise groundwater flow model based on the analytic element method. It models steady state flow in a single heterogeneous aquifer using the Dupuit-Forchheimer assumption. While GFLOW supports some local transient and three-dimensional flow modeling, it is particularly suitable for modeling regional horizontal flow.

GoldSim
By GoldSim Technology Group LLC. A Monte Carlo simulation software solution for dynamically modeling complex systems in business, engineering and science. GoldSim supports decision and risk analysis by simulating future performance while quantitatively representing the uncertainty and risks inherent in all complex systems. Some environmental systems uses include water resources and hydrological modeling, radioactive and hazardous waste management, ecological and biological modeling, and human health risk assessment. Groundwater Modeling System (GMS)

Groundwater Vistas

The advanced version of Groundwater Vistas provides a groundwater risk assessment tool. Groundwater Vistas is the modelling software of choice for the Environment Agency of England and Wales.

GW Contour

GWFLOW (IGWMC)

The program 'GWFLOW' brings together seven frequently used analytical solutions for ground-water flow problems. It is a simple program for quick calculations. The modules are: 1) nonsteady-state flow in a homogeneous, isotropic, nonleaky confined aquifer with a single production or injection well; 2) nonsteady-state flow in a homogeneous, isotropic, nonleaky confined aquifer with a partially penetrating well; 3) nonsteady-state flow in a homogeneous, isotropic, leaky confined aquifer with a single production or injection well; 4) steady-state flow in a homogeneous, isotropic, leaky confined aquifer with a single production or injection well; 5) nonsteady-state flow in two mutually leaky homogeneous, isotropic, confined aquifers with a single production or injection well in the lower aquifer; 6)nonsteady-state flow in a homogeneous, isotropic, unconfined aquifer with a circular recharge area; and 7) depletion of a fully penetrating stream due to pumping of a fully penetrating production well in a homogeneous, isotropic, unconfined aquifer.

H2OCalc

H2OCalc is an stand-alone program designed as a hydraulic and hydrology (H&H) toolbox to assist civil, environmental and water resources engineers with solving complex hydraulic problems quickly and accurately. Its modeling capabilities let engineers streamline the hydraulic analysis and design of pipes, pumps, open channels, weirs, orifices, culverts, and inlets. Calculations for both steady uniform flow and gradually varied flow are supported. The program also performs useful calculations for stormwater runoff and groundwater flow.

HOTWTR (IGWMC)

The program 'HOTWTR' is a block-centered finite difference model for simulating three-dimensional steady-state groundwater flow and heat transport in an isotropic, heterogeneous confined aquifer system with uniform thermal properties and no change of state.

HPS (IGWMC)
By Integrated GroundWater Modeling Center (IGWMC) (formerly International Ground Water Modeling Center). HPS is an analytical model for simulating three-dimensional contaminant transport from a Horizontal Plane Source in a uniform regional ground water flow field. The model incorporates advective and dispersive (scale-dependent) transport, retardation, and first-order decay.

HYDRUS 2D/3D
By Integrated GroundWater Modeling Center (IGWMC) (formerly International Ground Water Modeling Center). A software package for simulating water, heat, and solute movement in two- and three-dimensional variably saturated media, using a computational computer program and an interactive graphics-based user interface.

INVFD (IGWMC)
By Integrated GroundWater Modeling Center (IGWMC) (formerly International Ground Water Modeling Center). INVFD is a two-dimensional, steady-state ground-water flow model, which can be used to estimate parameters by nonlinear regression. The model simulates (leaky) confined flow in a heterogeneous aquifer. External boundary conditions include specified specific discharge normal to the boundary and specified hydraulic head.

JDB2D/3D (IGWMC)

JDB2D/3D consists of two fairly simple, easily modifiable computer programs for solving the two-dimensional, single-aquifer (JDB2D) and quasi-three-dimensional, multi-aquifer (JDB3D) formulation of the transient ground-water flow equation for confined and leaky-confined aquifer systems.

MAP (IGWMC)

The Monitoring Analysis Package MAP has been developed as a tool for the design of monitoring networks. MAP consists of the Plume Generation Model PLUME, the Monitoring Efficiency Model MEMO, and the Contamination Probability Model COPRO. The package includes utilities for data input and well location adjustment for efficiency determinations.

MIGRATE
By GAEA Technologies Ltd. MIGRATE, landfill design and contaminant transport software, models contaminant transport from multiple sources, either at the surface or buried, in two-dimensions. One or more landfills, buried waste, spills, or disposal ponds can be modeled. These contaminant sources may be adjacent or offset from each other. Model properties may be either constant or transient, with the concentrations calculated at specified times, depths, and distances.

MIKE SHE
By DHI Water & Environment. MIKE SHE is an integrated hydrological modelling system which covers the entire land phase of the hydrological cycle. It is a deterministic, distributed and physically based modelling system, which enables the simulation of water, solutes and sediments in the entire land phase of the hydrological cycle.

MODFLOWT
By HydroSOLVE, Inc. A version of MODFLOW that includes modules for simulating three-dimensional contaminant transport. Developed by Glenn M. Duffield of HydroSOLVE, Inc. and GeoTrans, MODFLOWT solves the advective-dispersive transport equation using a fully-implicit finite-difference technique with full expansion of the dispersion tensor. Support is from GeoTrans.

ModTech

NETFLO (IGWMC)
By Integrated GroundWater Modeling Center (IGWMC) (formerly International Ground Water Modeling Center). NETFLO is a model to simulate steady-state three-dimensional ground-water flow in a heterogeneous medium using an equivalent network of series and parallel flow members. Where the stratigraphy does not suggest a particular network configuration, a network may be specified along principal stream tubes specified with a more general three-dimensional ground-water flow code.

ONE-D (IGWMC)
By Integrated GroundWater Modeling Center (IGWMC) (formerly International Ground Water Modeling Center). ONE-D is a package of five analytical models of the one-dimensional convective-dispersive transport equation with linear adsorption, zero-order production, and first-order decay. The governing transport equations include terms accounting for convection, diffusion and dispersion. The programs represent solutions for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd type boundary conditions.

PATH3D (IGWMC)
By Integrated GroundWater Modeling Center (IGWMC) (formerly International Ground Water Modeling Center). PATH3D is a general particle tracking program for calculating ground-water paths and travel times in steady-state or transient, two- or three-dimensional flow fields. The program can be used to simulate the movement of ground-water and the advection of contaminant solutes in ground-water. The program is particularly useful for delineating contaminant capture zones or well-head protection zone.

PEST2000
By Integrated GroundWater Modeling Center (IGWMC) (formerly International Ground Water Modeling Center). A nonlinear parameter estimation package with a difference. The difference is that PEST can be used to estimate parameters for another computer model, whether or not a user has access to the model's source code. PEST is able to "take control" of a model, running it as many times as it needs to while adjusting its parameters until the discrepancies between selected model outputs and a complementary set of field or laboratory measurements is reduced to a minimum in the weighted least squares sense. Developed by Watermark Computing (Australia).

PLASM (IGWMC)
By Integrated GroundWater Modeling Center (IGWMC) (formerly International Ground Water Modeling Center). PLASM as distributed by the IGWMC is a programs package based on the Prickett Lonnquist Aquifer Simulation Program (PLASM) first published in 1971 by the Illinois State Water Survey. It consists of three finite-difference simulation programs and a preprocessor. The programs simulate two-dimensional nonsteady flow of ground-water in heterogeneous anisotropic aquifers under water table, nonleaky, and leaky confined conditions.

PLUME (IGWMC)

PLUME, also called PLUME-PH, is an analytical model for calculation of point concentration in a homogeneous aquifer resulting from a continuous, time-varying release of a single radioactive or non-radioactive component from a horizontal line source.

PLUME2D (IGWMC)

The program 'PLUME2D' is an analytical model based on closed-form solutions of the non-conservative solute transport equation for instantaneous and continuous releases of a tracer in one or more source locations as presented by Wilson and Miller (1978), and corrected by Wilson and Miller (1979).

POLLUTE
By GAEA Technologies Ltd. The POLLUTE program provides contaminant migration analysis capabilities. This program implements a one and a half dimensional solution to the advection-dispersion equation. The program comes in two editions, Professional and Standard. The Professional edition is best suited for landfill design and the Standard edition is best suited for environmental remediation.

PORFLOW
By Analytic & Computational Research, Inc. (ACRi). PORFLOW is designed to solve problems involving transient or steady state fluid flow, heat, salinity, and mass transport in multi-phase, variably saturated, porous or fractured media with dynamic phase change. The porous/fractured media may be anisotropic and heterogeneous, arbitrary sources (injection or pumping wells) may be present and, chemical reactions or radioactive decay may take place. It accommodates alternate fluid and media property relations and complex and arbitrary boundary conditions. The geometry may be 2D or 3D, Cartesian or Cylindrical and the mesh may be structured or unstructured.

PRINCE (IGWMC)
By Integrated GroundWater Modeling Center (IGWMC) (formerly International Ground Water Modeling Center). PRINCE is a software package which contains ten analytical solute transport and flow models, widely known as the Princeton Analytical Models. The three flow models simulate two-dimensional groundwater flow in a confined homogeneous, isotropic aquifer of finite, semi-finite and infinite lateral extent. The flow models include a two-dimensional anisotropic Theis solution for multiple injection and extraction wells, as well as the two-dimensional Hantush-Jacob solution for leaky, anisotropic aquifers.. They can be used for analysis of well spacing and capture zone problems with a simple treatment of recharge/barrier boundary conditions.

RADFLOW (IGWMC)
By Integrated GroundWater Modeling Center (IGWMC) (formerly International Ground Water Modeling Center). RADFLOW is a menu-driven, user-interactive finite difference model for solving the horizontal radial time-varying flow equation in a confined, semi-confined or unconfined aquifer. The program calculates drawdowns resulting from a pumping well in the center of a circular homogeneous, isotropic aquifer subject to uniform areal recharge.

RAND3D (IGWMC)
By Integrated GroundWater Modeling Center (IGWMC) (formerly International Ground Water Modeling Center). The RAND3D program is a three-dimensional version of the random walk algorithm developed by Thomas Prickett at the Illinois State Water Survey as an efficient algorithm for solving ground water solute transport problems (Prickett, Naymik, and Lonnquist, 1981).

RANDOM WALK

For studying mass transport problems dictated by analytical formula driven groundwater flow distributions. This is simpler than developing a finite-difference or finite-element flow model as input to a mass transport techniques. The model includes the capabilities of including both steady and non-steady conditions, multiple pumping or injecting wells at time-variable rates, regional and uniform water-level variation velocities, homogeneous and isotropic aquifer conditions, image-well theory for simulating constant head and no-flow boundaries, and a series of sinks that can replicate a fully-penetrating and meandering river or stream.

ReActive Flow and Transport of Groundwater Contaminants (RAFT)
By Pacific Northwest National Laboratory. RAFT is a three-dimensional numerical model for studying the fate and transport of reactive solutes in the saturated zone. RAFT is modular so that user-specified reaction systems can be incorporated into the code.

RISC
By Spence Environmental Engineering. RISC (Risk-Integrated Software for Clean-ups) is a software for evaluating human health risk and determining clean-up levels at contaminated sites.

RWH (IGWMC)
By Integrated GroundWater Modeling Center (IGWMC) (formerly International Ground Water Modeling Center). RWH is an analytical version of the widely used RANDOM WALK flow and solute transport model, specifically designed for screening and educational purposes. It simulates solute transport from one or more sources in a homogeneous, isotropic, confined aquifer of constant thickness and infinite extent. It accounts for one- or two-dimensional steady-state regional ground-water flow and the superposed effects of varying-rate production and injection wells using the transient Theis equation.

SOLUTE

The program package "SOLUTE" is a set of five programs based on analytical solutions of the advective-dispersive transport equation for a non-conservative tracer solute. All SOLUTE programs facilitate interactive data entry and editing, and results are given in tabular and graphic form, including contour plots and line graphs.

SOLUTRANS
By Fitts Geosolutions. SOLUTRANS is a 32-bit Windows program for modeling three-dimensional solute transport. The solutions are those presented by Leij et. al. (1991) and Leij et. al. (1993).

Subsurface Transport Over Multiple Phases (STOMP)
By Pacific Northwest National Laboratory. A computer model, designed to be a general-purpose tool for simulating subsurface flow and transport, that complements other analytical capabilities developed by Pacific Northwest National Laboratory's Hydrology Group. The simulator was specifically designed to provide scientists and engineers from varied disciplines with multidimensional analysis capabilities for modeling subsurface flow and transport phenomena. STOMP's target capabilities were guided by proposed or applied remediation activities at sites contaminated with volatile organic compounds and/or radioactive material. Developed with the support of the U.S. Department of Energy, Office of Environmental Restoration and Waste Management, the simulator's modeling capabilities address a variety of subsurface environments, including nonisothermal conditions, fractured media, multiple-phase systems, nonwetting fluid entrapment, soil freezing conditions, nonaqueous phase liquids, first-order chemical reactions, radioactive decay, solute transport, dense brines, nonequilibrium dissolution, and surfactant-enhanced dissolution and mobilization of organics.

SVFlux
By SoilVision Systems Ltd. SVFlux™ is designed to model seepage and groundwater in soils. It is a 1D, 2D and 3D finite-element program for engineering soil mechanics computations.

SVHeat
By SoilVision Systems Ltd. SVHeat™ is designed for use by geotechnical / geoenvironmental engineers, geological engineers, and soil scientists. The software is able to calculate geothermal gradients and the movement of freezing fronts in saturated and unsaturated soils.

SVOffice 2009

SWICHA

SWICHA is a three-dimensional finite element code for analyzing seawater intrusion in coastal aquifers. The model simulates variable density fluid flow and solute transport processes in fully-saturated porous media. It can solve the flow and transport equations independently or concurrently in the same computer run. Transport mechanisms considered include: advection, hydrodynamic dispersion, absorption, and first-order decay.

TARGET

TARGET is a family of codes for simulating ground-water flow and chemical-species transport in saturated and variably saturated porous media. TARGET, originally released in the early 1980s, has the ability to handle complex boundary conditions and multiple material properties, sources and sinks. TARGET consists of four independent computer codes for 1) two-dimensional, vertically integrated, confined/ unconfined, transient ground-water flow, and solute transport (TARGET-2DH); 2) two-dimensional vertically oriented (cross section), variably saturated, density coupled, transient ground-water flow, and solute transport (TARGET-2DU); 3) multi-layer (variable layer thickness), confined/unconfined, transient ground-water flow, and solute transport (TARGET-2DM); and 4) three-dimensional, saturated, density coupled, transient ground-water flow, and solute transport (TARGET-3DS).

THWELLS

THWELLS is an analytical model for calculating the drawdown or buildup of piezometric head due to the combined effect of up to up to 100 pumping and/or injection wells. The calculation of total drawdown is based on the Theis equation or Hantush-Jacob equation for non-steady state flow in an isotropic, homogeneous confined, leaky confined or unconfined aquifer of infinite extent.

TRAFRAP-WT

TRAFRAP-WT (TRAnsport in FRActured Porous media with Water Table boundary conditions) is a two-dimensional finite element code designed to simulate ground-water flow and solute transport in fractured or granular aquifers, and is capable of treating both (leaky-)confined and water table systems. Fractured porous media are represented by either the discrete-fracture or dual porosity approaches, or a combination of both. The model solves either for flow or transport.

TWODAN
By Fitts Geosolutions. TWODAN stands for TWO-Dimensional ANalytic groundwater flow model. It helps with remediation design, capture zone analysis, and regional modeling problems.

UnSat Suite Plus

The UnSat Suite Plus is a fully-integrated software package that combines the most popular and widely-used models for simulating one-dimensional groundwater flow and contaminant transport in the unsaturated zone (includes SESOIL, VS2DT, VLEACH, PESTAN and the Visual HELP model). Visual HELP

Visual MODFLOW

WinFlow and WinTran

WinFlow is an interactive, analytical model that simulates two-dimensional steady-state and transient ground-water flow with wells, uniform recharge, circular recharge/discharge areas, and line sources or sinks. The model depicts the flow field using streamlines, particle traces, and water-level contours. WinTran couples the steady-state groundwater flow model from WinFlow with a contaminant transport model.
